This is a “Newmark” sports field line marker and would have been used in the 1960s to lay out the boundaries of a football field or tennis court. It originally had a push stick handle that allowed you to direct it as you walked forward laying down the chalk that was in the ‘funnel’ shaped box. Made of cast aluminium and standing 30cm (12″) high it has been mounted on a stainless steel plate and fitted with Edison lamp holders and filament bulbs.
