Made January of 1952 this Swiss made Elna 1 was the first of its kind with production starting in 1940 and going through to mid 1952 when they brought out the next model the Elna 2.

The Elna 1 was named the grasshopper probably due to its green color and fold up leg which was used as a brake on the first model.

It is a portable model with the case folding out flat to form a wide base that the sewing machine slots into.

It has its original accessory box with all the original contents including a variety of feet for darning hemming etc and the two bakelite oil containers. The green one for oil and the red one for kerosene.

It has its original power chord and a copy of Elna’s instruction booklet.

This photo demonstrates how the open case is placed face down and folds flat with the sewing machine slotting into it to create a larger sewing platform.
