I discovered this beautiful Australian cedar box in a junk shop despite the fact that it was in a terrible state. It had been part of a phone company equipment supply from around the 1940s and originally had a handle on the side that you turned vigorously to connect you to your call.

Inside the box was the remains of wiring and switching gear, none of which I understand but I did love the box with the bright red danger sign on the top and the speaker grill, so I got it.

It polished up beautifully and I decided to display it as a side table lamp and had the bayonet plug and switch fitted. The copper tube was added just because I liked the look of it. And there you have it – Party line, switching gear, table lamp.
